About Luis

Luis started as an apprentice at nineteen, riding along on no-heat calls in January. He earned his Ohio HVAC contractor's license at 27 and opened Ortega Heating & Air in 2011 with one van and a borrowed vacuum pump.

The company now runs six trucks out of a shop in Lewis Center. They replace furnaces and air conditioners, install a growing number of heat pumps, and look after about 900 homes on maintenance plans. Luis still trains every new tech himself, and each one learns the same rule: show the customer the failed part before you recommend anything.

He is known in the chapter for talking people out of replacements they don't need yet. It costs him a sale now and then. He says it's how he earns the next twenty.

The inspector on one of my Westerville listings called the 2004 furnace end of life, and the buyers asked for $9k off. Luis tested it the next morning, replaced a $90 flame sensor, and wrote a one-page report the buyers accepted.

Keisha Monroe Monroe Home Group

Most of our kitchens this year had Luis on the ductwork. He shows up when the schedule says he will and hasn't once asked us to move a cabinet.

Our clinic's rooftop unit quit on a July afternoon with a full schedule of patients. Luis had a tech there in 90 minutes, and he showed me the burned contactor before he changed anything.

A customer of mine in Jerome Township was quoted $14,500 for a new furnace and AC, so I gave her Luis's number. He replaced a $310 inducer motor and told her the furnace had another five winters in it.
