About Derek
Derek served eight years in the Marine Corps as a logistics specialist. After getting out in 2013, he bought a used box truck and started moving furniture with his younger brother on weekends. The weekends filled up fast.
Simms Moving & Storage now has seven trucks, 22 movers, and a 40,000-square-foot climate-controlled storage building just off Route 42. The company handles local and long-distance residential moves and small office relocations. A growing share of the work is senior downsizing: moving someone out of a 40-year family home and into a condo or senior community, with the unpacking and picture-hanging done the same day.
Every mover is an employee, not a day laborer. Derek is the newest member of Surge Plain City.
