About Tess
Tess Villanueva came to Ohio from the Philippines in 2001 to work as a hospital nurse and spent 20 years on med-surg and cardiac floors. The hardest part of the job, she says, was discharge day, when a family realized Mom was coming home tomorrow and couldn't be alone.
She opened Kalinga Home Care in 2021. Kalinga is the Tagalog word for care. The agency's 35 caregivers provide companionship, personal care, medication reminders, overnight stays and help after a hospital or rehab stay in Plain City, Hilliard, Dublin and Marysville. An RN visits every new client in the first week, and families get the same small team of caregivers instead of a new stranger every shift.
Tess also teaches Filipino cooking classes at her church, and her lumpia sell out every time.
