Founder at Northbound IT
IT support for small offices that are one phishing email away from a very bad week.
Hamza started fixing computers at fifteen for the family businesses along Cleveland Avenue: a grocery, two travel agencies, and his uncle's tax office. By his second year of college he had more clients than classes.
Northbound IT now supports about 40 offices across central Ohio, mostly dental practices, law firms, accountants and property managers with 5 to 60 people. The company handles help desk, backups, Microsoft 365, and the security basics insurers now ask about before they renew a cyber policy. Hamza runs a phishing drill for every client each quarter. The worst result so far was a 38% click rate, and it came from a firm full of attorneys.
His personal crusade is ending the passwords-on-a-sticky-note habit. He has photographed more than 200 of them.
Hamza's first phishing drill at my firm got a 30 percent click rate, and I was one of the people who clicked. Six months later we're at 4 percent, and my paralegal forwards me suspicious invoices before she opens them.
Elena Vasquez Vasquez Business Law Our old IT vendor let the backups fail for five months and nobody noticed. Hamza found it in his first week, moved the office to Microsoft 365 with MFA on every account, and this spring our cyber policy renewed with no exclusions for the first time in three years.
Leila Haddad Uptown Family Dental Someone spoofed my transaction coordinator's email last winter, and a buyer came within one phone call of wiring $6,000 in earnest money to a fake account. Hamza put MFA on every account my team uses and trained all of us in about forty minutes. He also found my password taped under my keyboard.
Keisha Monroe Monroe Home Group The password for our online ordering system was on a sticky note on the walk-in cooler, and Hamza took a picture of it for his collection. Then he set us up with a password manager, and a month later he stopped a fake produce invoice before my kitchen manager paid it.
